Kingston Campus Located in the historic village of Kingston, the University of Rhode Island is close to the ocean and major beaches. Our 1,200-acre campus, a mix of ivy-covered buildings and contemporary architecture, is 30 miles south of Providence, and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City.

Beach season is in full swing here in Rhode Island, but it’s always beach season at the University of Rhode Island. There are a dozen public beaches near our main campus in Kingston, and our Narragansett Bay campus has its own beach just a few steps from its classrooms.

It is a moderate sized school that has the feel of a larger university but the heart of a smaller university (particularly the professors). URI is not near anything really. There is no town to speak of though students do have access to non-school food at the Emporium.
