Every turret has two range parameters called “Optimal Range” and “Accuracy Falloff”. A gun’s optimal range is the range within which distance has no effect on hit chance. In other words in optimal range the distances can be completely ignored and only tracking has any effect on hitting.
Whats falloff range?
Falloff (as shown in Arsenal) describes two distances making up the range at which a weapon’s damage starts decreasing linearly from 100%, to the weapon’s minimum damage percentage, if a target is struck within the range.
What is falloff damage?
Damage Falloff is a feature of all kinetic or thermal weapons in the game. It sets in after a certain range and reduces the damage dealt by shots. The range can be increased by engineers with the modifications Long Range Weapon or Focused Weapon, or decreased with Short Range Blaster.
Is there damage falloff in overwatch?
Spread only affects the trajectory of bullets, not their damage. In Overwatch, weapons can have falloff, spread, both, or none. Generally, hitscan weapons have falloff, while projectile weapons don’t. There is no single rule that applies to all heroes.

How important is weapon range in EVE Online?
In EVE, there are always trade-offs. Longer range weapons tend to fire more slowly and will have a more difficult time hitting close in, fast moving targets. However, if you can keep at long range, you can frequently hit the enemy at a distance that he can not hit you back.
What is the difference between optimal range and falloff?
Optimal range: the range at which getting closer doesn’t make it more likely you will score a hit. Falloff in Show Info: The distance past optimal that you can still hit fairly well. I believe it is about 75% as likely to get a hit at the far edge of optimal + falloff. Falloff in the HUD: Optimal + Falloff.
What happens if you go over your optimal range?
The penalty for exceeding the optimal range by a small amount is reasonably low; the chance to hit a target at 33% of the falloff range in excess of the optimal range is still above 90%. Minmatar ships especially have significant falloff ranges allowing them to fight effectively beyond their optimal range.
