History. The Av-Matoran were the first Matoran type created, and were the prototypes of the Matoran species, as later Matoran did not possess powers like they did. They lived in underground caverns in the Southern Continent. 100,000 years ago, a group of Av-Matoran left to colonize Karda Nui.
Do Matoran need to eat?
Matoran breathe oxygen and, like organic beings, they need to drink water or liquid protodermis in order to survive. They can eat by coming into physical contact with energy-bearing objects such as a fruit, berries, or fish. They do not need to eat or sleep as much as their Agori counterparts.

Who was the first Toa?
Helryx was the first Toa of Water, as well as the first Toa created. She was a former member of the Hand of Artakha, and after its disbandment, she formed the Order of Mata Nui and became its leader.
How did Inika and Piraka fight each other?
The two use their enhanced powers to subdue the other Piraka and the Toa. After Hakann and Thok leave, having forced Brutaka to reveal the location of the Mask of Life, the Piraka and Inika strike an uneasy alliance to de-power the two.
What happened to the Toa after the Piraka’s blast?
The Toa collapsed as a result of the Piraka’s blast, but the sphere does its job. When the Inika woke up, the Piraka have headed down the tunnel to the Mask of Life.
How did Thok and Hakann defeat Brutaka?
While the Toa gain an advantage, Hakann used a very special Zamor Sphere to try and steal Brutaka’s power, cutting out his “allies” in the plan, but Thok intervenes and gets half the power for himself. The two use their enhanced powers to subdue the other Piraka and the Toa.
How did the Piraka enslave the Matoran?
In the meantime, Zaktan used the knowledge he gained near Makuta’s armor to build a device that collected a kind of virus known as Antidermis. The Piraka then used Zamor Spheres filled with this virus to fully enslave the Matoran; however, the six suspicious ones managed to escape and began to work against the Piraka.
