What do you do if you find a tired racing pigeon?
If you have found or are concerned about a lost racing pigeon, please report it on the Royal Pigeon Racing Association’s website – or other relevant racing pigeon union, denoted by the prefix on its leg ring. Racing pigeons can eat bird seed, uncooked rice or lentils – NOT bread.

If it doesn’t fly away within a few minutes the bird should be picked up and put into a secure box in a warm, quiet place. Often they just need to rest for a few hours or overnight and can then be released. If there are any obvious injuries or the bird doesn’t recover quickly then do contact a wildlife rescue.
What to do if you find a hurt pigeon?
Here’s what you should do if you find an injured pigeon:
- Approach slowly and pick it up with care. Gently does it as you don’t know the extent of its injuries unless they are highly visible and obvious.
- Place it in a darkened location.
- Keep them warm.
- Give them something to drink.
- Give Them Some Food.
