Can treats be used during the CGC test?
CGC Requirement #4: Walking on a Loose Lead You are allowed to speak to your dog during this course, so use this to your advantage to keep your dog focused and on task. No training tools like treats or training collars can be used on the exam, so your dog will need to be able to walk in a regular harness or collar.

Can a CGC evaluator test their own dog?
Canine Good Citizen Evaluators should avoid any situations, which appears to be a conflict of interest. Evaluators may not test dogs they own in the CGC test.
Is the CGC test hard?
Completing and passing the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test is difficult for both dog and pet owner. To pass the CGC test, you have to do all 10 steps completely successfully. How old does a dog have to be to take the CGC test?
There is no age limit for the CGC test. A dog is never too old to be a good citizen. Puppies who have completed all immunizations and boosters may be tested, however, because we know that behavior and temperament can change over time, when puppies pass the CGC test, owners should have them re-tested as adults.
How many times can you take the Canine Good Citizen test?
You and your dog may retake the Canine Good Citizen test as many times as you need. On test day, if you and your dog fail only one test, the evaluator may retest that one skill at the end of the testing period. If you and your dog can demonstrate that you really do know that one skill, you’ll pass the CGC test.
Can you use a gentle leader for CGC test?
