How do you measure a taper?
Morse Taper & ASA (also #1, #2, & #3 B&S) Tapers may be identified by measuring the diameter of the hole at the face (or gage line) of the spindle or by the location, length and width of the tang slot. Shanks are identified also by the gage diameter and by the length of the shank or tang thickness.
What are taper sizes?
Tapers range from a Number 2 to a Number 20. The diameter of the big end in inches is always the taper size divided by 8, the small end is always the taper size divided by 10 and the length is the taper size divided by 2. For example, a Jarno #7 measures 0.875″ (7/8) across the big end.
What are the dimensions of a Morse taper 2?

| 2 morse taper | 0.7000″ 17.780mm | 2.56″ 65.02mm |
| 3 morse taper | 0.9380″ 23.825mm | 3.19″ 81.06mm |

What is the taper ratio?
Taper ratio is one of the parameters on planform geometry which means the ratio of the root and tip chord lengths of a wing.
How do you calculate taper ratio?
Apply the measurements of the tip and root of the wing to the formula: taper ratio = C tip / C root. Use as an example a plane with a wing root measurement of 20 feet, or 240 inches, and a wing tip measurement of 6 feet, or 72 inches. The formula then becomes: 72/240 = 0.3 taper ratio.
Can I convert a MT1 taper to a MT2 taper?
There are adapter sleeves that will convert the smaller MT male taper to hold the larger MT 2 shank, but it is not particularly advised. Usually if your lathe is designed to use a MT1 taper it is because it is only structurally designed for smallerl work.
What are the different sizes of mt-0 and MT-7?
There are 8 sizes ranging from MT-0 to MT-7, each with a given size as outlined in the table below: A B C- length 1 morse taper 0.4750″ 12.065mm 0.3690″ 9.373mm 2.13″ 54.10mm 2 morse taper 0.7000″ 17.780mm 0.5720″ 14.529mm 2.56″ 65.02mm
