What information does the subnet chart show?

The chart shows the relationship between prefix length and subnet mask as well as your powers of 2 and bit value relationships. In addition, the charts shows the number of subnets and number of hosts per subnet for /25 and larger prefixes only. For all other prefix lengths please use the file titled, “Subnet Chart – Full Table.

How many hosts are on an IP subnet?

Everything left is the available number of hosts on each individual subnet. So let’s use those charts to be able to quickly determine what these values might be on an IP subnet. We’ve got our number of subnets here, which is 2 the subnet bits power, and hosts per subnet, which is 2 to the host bits power minus 2.

Is there a subnet chart for Class C addresses?

A little subnet chart I threw together to help you in your subnetting of Class C addresses. The chart shows the relationship between prefix length and subnet mask as well as your powers of 2 and bit value relationships. In addition, the charts shows the number of subnets and number of hosts per subnet for /25 and larger prefixes only.

How do you calculate the number of subnets in a subnet?

The formula is: 2n-2, where n is the number of bits being used from the host portion of our subnet mask. Important Note: We subtract 2 networks (the first and last subnets) from the total unless we have equipment that supports IP Subnet-Zero in which case we use the formula 2n – please see the addendum at the end of this lesson for more details.
