Turn on the Auto Smooth checkbox on the Rendering rollout of a spline shape to turn on smoothing. Apply a Smooth modifier. If a Face sub-object selection is active, Smooth applies to the selected faces. If no faces are selected, Smooth applies to the entire object.

How do I smooth in 3ds Max?

To smooth an object:

  1. Select the object to smooth.
  2. On the Modifiers menu, choose Mesh Editing Smooth.
  3. On the Modify panel Modifier List, choose Object-Space Modifiers Smooth.
  4. Turn on Auto Smooth and adjust the Threshold for the desired smoothing effect.

What are smoothing groups 3ds Max?

When you begin modeling from a primitive such as a Sphere or Cylinder, it has preset smoothing groups that make its surface look good. A smoothing group is easiest understood as a group of polygons that share the same smooth curvature.

What is chamfer in 3ds Max?

Use the Chamfer modifier to procedurally add edges to specific parts of an object with an option for generating quadrilateral output. It can be applied at all sub-object levels and is typically used for rounding off edges, but can also be applied in situations where additional mesh resolution is required.

Why are smoothing groups important?

Smoothing groups are useful for describing shapes where some polygons are connected smoothly to their neighbors, and some are not. For example, in a mesh representing a cylinder, all of the polygons are smoothly connected except along the edges of the end caps.

Does Maya have smoothing groups?

Maya does not use smoothing groups. Maya uses soft and hard edges. You can find these options in the Normals pull-down menu within the Polygons menu set.

How do I know if Maya is smooth?

Smooth Mesh Preview lets you quickly and easily see how your polygonal mesh will appear when smoothed. You can quickly cycle between different Smooth mesh preview modes by pressing the 1, 2, or 3 keys when an object is selected.

Where is fillet in 3ds Max?

Fillet/Chamfer Modifier

  1. Select a shape. > Modify panel > Modifier List > Object-Space Modifiers > Fillet/Chamfer.
  2. Default menu: Select a shape. > Modifiers menu > Patch/Spline editing > Fillet/Chamfer.
  3. Alt menu: Select a shape. > Modifiers menu > Spline > Fillet/Chamfer.

Why do I see different shading on different smoothing groups?

From looking at the 1 screenshot, it looks like you might be seeing different shading on the different smoothing groups. As you rotate the model in the viewport you would see the default lighting in the viewport change the shading on the different faces. This would oly occur if there were strange smoothing groups I think.

What is smoothing in AutoCAD?

Smoothing blends the shading at the edges between faces to produce the appearance of a smooth, curved surface. You can control how smoothing is applied to a surface so your objects can have both smooth surfaces and sharp, faceted edges where appropriate.

How do I change the shading style in Revit?

Click or right-click the Shading label in the upper-left corner of a viewport. The text of this label shows the current shading style; for example, “ [ Wireframe ]” or “ [ Smooth + Highlights ]”.

Does the Quicksilver Renderer support ray-traced Shadows?

The Quicksilver renderer supports most of the shadow controls associated with light objects. The exception is that it does not support patterned shadows (Shadow Parameters Map). Area lights can cast soft-edged shadows. The iray renderer always casts ray-traced shadows.
