What You Will Need
- Nail Clipper File.
- Gloves.
- Put the file in the right position.
- Insert the nail clipper file in the bottom of the keyhole.
- Figure out how to unlock the file cabinet lock by turning it counter-clockwise or clockwise.
- Release the locking mechanism by moving the file up and down.
How do you pick a filing cabinet lock?
Use a nail clipper file with a curved tip as your lock pick. When you are ready to pick the lock, slide the file out from the base of the nail clippers. Move the file until it is straight, and hold the file where it meets the clippers. You can slide the nail file either clockwise or counter-clockwise.
How does a filing cabinet lock?
The file cabinet lock is mounted inside the cabinet frame. A hole is drilled into the top of the frame right over the file cabinet drawer, and the tumbler housing and cabinet lock are inserted. When locked, the bolt then slides into this hole, preventing the file cabinet from being opened.
Can I replace the lock on my hon filing cabinet?
Yes, since January 1997 all of our Laminate Desks come standard with a core removable lock system. You can order keyed alike replacement lock cores from your HON dealer. If your HON filing cabinet was made prior to January 1997, contact customer support to determine if your cabinet can be retrofitted with a replaceable lock.
